Innovation in construction: Laura's digital approach
Shaping the future of construction with digital solutions: Laura has now been working at STRABAG Innovation & Digitalization (SID) for two years and manages software solutions for construction sites with a focus on IT-supported solutions, particularly in the area of digitalization. With her Master's degree in Energy and Building Systems, she not only brings technical knowledge, but also a fresh perspective on work processes in the construction industry. "I'm currently working with iTWO, a software for tendering, awarding and invoicing construction projects," says Laura.
Dynamic work full of innovation
The job of Product Manager is varied. From recording requirements to rolling out new solutions, Laura and her team colleagues work together to organize everything related to iTWO. "The focus alternates between organization and solution development depending on the phase," she says. Laura also works closely with users from the Group to optimize and simplify processes.
The role of digitalization
Laura is convinced that digitalization is the key to the future of the construction industry. "We are working on smart solutions that automate and simplify existing working methods," she emphasizes. One example is simplified input masks and project reports as well as evaluations that have been created through her teamwork. In addition to technical innovations, it is crucial for Laura to take a holistic view of the diverse interactions and complex interrelationships in the construction industry. This enables her to develop solutions that not only bring short-term efficiency, but also optimize the entire construction process in the long term.
Laura sees her work as an opportunity to drive long-term development. For her, every step is progress that brings new insights and leads to better solutions. Sustainability plays a central role for her. This means designing processes in such a way that they make ecological and economic sense and will continue to do so in the future.
Actively helping to shape future work processes – that's what excites Laura the most. "I enjoy working in an innovative environment and being able to respond flexibly to new requirements," she says. Agile software development in particular gives her the freedom to continuously work on improvements and realize new ideas. Sharing ideas with her colleagues and learning from each other motivates Laura every day.
A path full drive
Laura's passion for the construction industry was sparked during a joint project with ZÜBLIN, where she worked as a student trainee in construction coordination. The site manager's extensive knowledge made a lasting impression on her and strengthened her desire to develop such expertise herself. This determination has continued throughout her career to this day.
Networking and promoting young talent
In addition to her work as a product manager, Laura is a volunteer and uses her expertise to support others. In the association "Frauen in der Immobilienwirtschaft" (German for "Women in the Real Estate Industry"), she particularly appreciates the professional exchange and the wide range of further training opportunities that help women to network better in the industry and advance professionally. This exchange strengthens Laura in her professional life and offers her new perspectives.
In addition to her work in the association, she is also involved in a technical school, the Jugendtechnikschule Fellbach. There she teaches children the basics of technology, such as design work and 3D printing.
Laura shows them how to use tools safely and implement technical projects, which helps the children gain self-confidence. The children's creativity and curiosity are always a joy for our colleague, and she appreciates passing on her own experience to the next generation.
Shaping the future
For Laura, progress is more than just developing new technologies. It's about combining existing knowledge with fresh ideas and creating solutions that change the work environment in the long term. With every step she takes, she contributes to shaping the future of the construction industry – always with an eye on innovation and sustainability. In this way, her daily work becomes a constant process of learning, developing and shaping.
